What can be more wonderful to welcome me home than a postal delivery of the most delightful fresh chocolates I've ever tasted?! On Monday morning my post arrived and I saw a little brown package lying there, having forgotten that I was waiting for a handmade chocolate delivery from Chocolala. When I opened it to see the little silver tin containing my cocoa treats I really was as excited as a child in a sweet shop!
Chocolala has very recently launched and is the UK's first and only maker of fresh chocolates to carry the Fairtrade mark - and yes, you can really tell the difference. They need to be eaten within 14 days (call that a problem?) as they are so fresh,
Honestly and truly, they are the best chocolates I have ever tasted - and my personal favourite from the Regular Tin (£27) that I had delivered is the 'light praline', although the 'lala lemon' is also pretty special (stuffed with lemon curd and cream, no less). Oh, and the chocolate dipped mango sticks make perfect sensual munching too! In fact, they are all rather wonderful.
The chocolates are individually handmade and produced by two dedicated and ethically-minded enthusiasts called Nick and Niladri who describe themselves as "two men trying to deal with loss, mainly of our youth, hair, physique, and the plot", but it seems they're making up for all that with Chocolala. Nick and Niladri are both Quakers, and operate in way which refelcts their faith, as they say, through "endeavouring to work with honesty and integrity and in a way that respects other people and the planet."
If you are looking for a truly sensational chocolate experience then I would give them a whirl - I've tasted plenty of luxury and posh chocolate in my time and have never happened upon anything as delicious as these.
Chocolala is based in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire but the service and delivery is run mainly through the website and they deliver to anywhere in the UK. If you're looking for a reason to stay in this Saturday night then buying a tin of the exquisite delicacies to pick your way through with a friend is the perfect excuse! (So far, my son and I have pretty much munched our way through a fair share each, although admittedly, I've eaten slightly more!).
