Over the last couple of weeks, I've almost eliminated all refined carbohydrates and sugar from my diet (except for the occasional piece of chocolate, glass of wine and one baked lemon cheesecake dessert when I went out for my friend's birthday last Friday!).
This is a choice, as I've been aiming to follow a way of eating that doesn't encourage the growth of candida in my body. However, I'd rather allow the occasional foray into sugary lands than feel deprived - because we know what deprivation leads to, don't we?
I've also lost some weight (yippee!) but I have to admit, I found this out for definite by stepping on the scales at my mum's house. I had to weigh myself before I went skiing last month, at which point I became utterly depressed at the fact the number was far higher than I'd imagined.
So, after all the activity on holiday, and being very mindful of eating, I did feel like I'd lost weight by the time I got back. I couldn't resist just going to my mum's again for a little peek (first thing in the morning, before breakfast and with my very light PJs on - she lives 2 minutes away and I wore a long coat over them to run up to her house - what a tramp!). I had lost 4lbs. Well cor blimey.
I'm actually feeling incredibly healthy, have been swimming more regularly, doing half hour aerobics stints in my front room to pumping house music, and my moods and emotions seem more stable. I think this is because the types of food I'm eating are 'good mood foods' - they don't cause blood sugar highs and lows and they are very nutritious.
But I'm NOT dieting! I have cut out all the things that make me feel bad (such as moody, unhealthy, 'yeasty' etc!) and I'm including lots of foods I love (adding double cream to home-made carrot and parsnip soup, fresh fruit salads, scrambled eggs with butter, cheddar and spring onion) and I feel great.
Mad, huh?
Mad yes, but also good! I'm glad that you are sounding and feeling a lot more positive. How was skiing- had you ever been before? I've always wanted to try it but I am far too scared!

Hey, thanks for dropping by my blog the other day. I've been enjoying yours; I totally want to read the book now! Funny - even though I haven't been "dieting" either, I've been skipping the refined carbs at meals myself. Usually it would drive me nuts but I've been listening to my body, saying, "I can have bread if I want." and it's so weird to hear my body reply, "No, thank you".!

Skiing was good, thanks, Beakie! It was my second trip, and I'm hooked. Don't be scared, just do it!

Hi Andrea - the book is fab, so I would definitely recommend it, it was a turning point for. I have had the occasional slice of wholemeal toast, but I see that as a healthy carb. I'm hankering after a peanut butter and jam wholemeal sandwich for my tea though (and sugar is a no-no really) but I might just have it anyway!

Well done, I couldn't step on any scales at the moment, have been eating for England.
