It occurred to me that not only have I had a huge list forbidden foods, but I've also completely avoided many delectable-looking recipe books and the wonderful concoctions they contain, because I've been afraid of making anything that seems too high in fat or calories.
Not that I'm Sara Lee or anything, rarely do I 'bake', but that doesn't mean I can't or don't like to occasionally try a few things out. So I have just decided to have a baking session with my son after seeing this Konditor & Cook Chocolate Biscuit Cake.
Doesn't it look glorious? It's just about the biggest nightmare for any dieter as well, so a perfect first step in my desire to overcome the fear I have of gorgeous cookery books (I wonder if there is a related phobia term?) in my quest to be a normal eater.
The gluggy, gooey, ultra chocolaty mixture that is the foundation of this chilled confection is currently sitting in the fridge and needs four hours before we can tuck in. I'm sure I'll only want a tiny piece as it is so rich, but what a lovely treat to have sometime tomorrow with a cuppa?
I also have to admit, I did alter the ingredients a little as well, so while the Konditor & Cook Chocolate Biscuit Cake calls for walnuts and golden syrup, I've used pecans and maple syrup. A slight Canadian twist I like to think, influenced by my visit to Vancouver last April where I bought a bottle of the sugary stuff, which it has been sitting unused until now.
So, can't wait to see how this turns out.
I have to say - the cake is utterly delicious! Definitely yum rather than glum.
