Winner of RAWR Easter Eggs competition has been announced!

RAWR-Easter-Eggs I'm happy to report that a winner of the RAWR Easter Eggs competition, which was recently featured on my blog, has been chosen by RAWR.

It was a touch choice as there were 60 entries for the competition, but RAWR's chocolate producers liked the suggestion of Claire Evans, who came up with the idea of a mix of dried cherries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries as a new chocolate flavour for RAWR. So Claire is the lucky winner of the eggs!

She has been notified and a box of the RAWR Easter eggs are on their way to her.

DON'T FORGET THOUGH - 10% discount on orders from RAWR is available for Chocolate and Beyond readers!

Just use the code BEYOND10 which you can add in My Cart on www.rawrchoc.com after making your order.

The competition closes on Friday 15th April - giving time for RAWR to choose a winner and send a box out in time for Easter!

RAWR Easter eggs - quite possibly the best chocolate ever? Dairy-free too!

RAWR-Easter-Eggs Oh my. If there was anything I needed to cheer me up from my spluttering sick-bed (I'm currently ill with a chest infection), it was the delivery of a box of four solid raw chocolate Easter eggs sent to me yesterday courtesy of RAWR. I can honestly say, I've never tasted anything quite like these eggs before - it is highly likely to be the best chocolate experience I've ever had.

This is the first time I've ever tried raw chocolate, and for the uninitiated, that means chocolate that is made from completely uncooked ingredients (preventing loss of nutrients, which unprocessed choc contains - there is info on RAWR's website). I have to say - WOW!

Firstly, they come delightfully packaged in a little blue recycled egg-box tied up in yellow ribbon, a treat for the eyes. Then the four eggs inside - each one a good solid 70g - are individually wrapped to signify their different flavours - 'Purity' (organic dark choc with crunchy cacao nibs), 'Zest' (organic orange choc), 'After Dinner' (organic mint choc) and '80% Intensity' (organic 80% cocoa choc).

The chocolate just kind of crumbles in your mouth - with the flavour slowly melting into your taste buds. I nibbled on a bit of every single egg at first, then decided to spend a while eating a half of 'Purity'. The chocolate was really like no other, and the flavours were intense without being overpowering. And you could actually properly taste the chocolate! It felt a million miles away from the taste of a commercial chocolate bar (in fact, eating the RAWR eggs felt positively healthy!).

Having tried all the eggs, my favourite was Zest (which I ate a full half of after my peanut butter on toast this morning). I've always been a fan of orange chocolate - though the idea of turning to a commercial brand ever again now has departed. Commerical chocolate is heated and packed with sugar, milk fat, and crap (let's be blunt), whereas this chocolate is organic, hand-made and naturally sweetened without refined sugar. It's gluten-free, and oh yes, dairy-free too. I've tried vegan chocolate before and have been disappointed, but the RAWR eggs were nothing like. Guilt-free, while delicious.

A box of four eggs costs £8.95. That's not a lot of money - and there IS a lot of chocolate in a box at 280g in total. I had to put the eggs away to keep mindful of not overeating! Plus, orders over £5 from the RAWR website have free delivery - so they really are a yummy bargain.

10% discount on RAWR orders for Chocolate and Beyond readers!

I just need to say that, after I tasted this chocolate, I specifically went to RAWR and asked if they would provide a discount for readers of my site. That's because I really was so impressed with it, I want everyone to have a taste themselves!

So, RAWR have kindly offered a very reasonable 10% discount off website orders. Just use the code BEYOND10 which you can add in My Cart on www.rawrchoc.com after making your order.

My suggestion is order a box for everyone you normally buy Easter eggs for, plus a box for yourself too - because if you order for others and not for you, you'll be annoyed when you find out how utterly delectable they are!

The Chocolate Boutique Hotel

Chocolate room How yummy does the The Chocolate Boutique Hotel look? It has chocolately themed rooms, a diary of chocolate-related events including chocolate-making workshops, and chocolate is provided daily in the bedrooms to chocoholic guests!

The hotel is in Bournemouth, so it's a bit of way from me to travel but I'm hoping I'll get to review it at some point. Maybe for The Travel Editor which I do a lot of writing for? Who knows?

Watch this space just in case!

PUDZ Heavenly Chocolate Pudding is just heavenly

Pudz_heavely_chocolate_puddingIt's a Friday evening and I could be out there having a life, but instead I'm at home, at my PC and working. Not to worry - my evening has been a delight, as I've just shared a PUDZ Heavenly Chocolate Pudding with my son (begrudgingly, I'll admit, but there was plenty of it so I don't mind really). And my my, what an utter spiral into decadent pleasure the eating part of that little experience was!

I'd already eaten the PUDZ with my eyes as it tipped out of its box and into the dish - the underside of it looks a bit boring (as the underside of anything does, really), but as soon as the gooey chocolate sauce all started spilling out and flowing over the pudding like hot chocolate lava, I knew I was going to enjoy myself.

Could your puddings win a prize? Fab competition with PUDZ!

A colleague of mine is organising a wonderful competition in Manchester to find the region's best amateur pudding chef - and the prize includes a weekend away baking puddings at The Pudding Club, which sounds great! I'm considering entering - but am rubbish at making desserts so I'm not so sure!

Fancy it? Here are all the details:

Do you bake THE BEST BUNS, COOK CRACKING CAKES OR ARE YOUR FLANS FABULOUS?

THE HUNT IS ON TO FIND THE BEST AMATEUR PUDDING CHEF IN THE NORTH-WEST!

Are your desserts more delicious than James Martin's? Would Delia be envious of your perfect puddings? If you think your desserts are divine PUDZ wants to hear from you!

The Chocolate Trading Company

I love the chocolate treasures that can be found within the Chocolate Trading Company's website.

It's a real treat just exploring their site, and a feast for the eyes even if you don't buy. I especially like the recipes (I've written about one here) that have been included to inspire, though when it comes to eating chocolate, I rarely need inspiring to do so!

Have a browse around, I've added the Chocolate Trading Company to my Chocolate Shop links at the side of my site.

Spicy hot chocolate from Whittard!

Aztec
Yum yum! I got sent a tub of Whittard's new Aztec Chilli Hot Chocolate that I've been meaning to write about for a while, after consuming most of it over Christmas, and I have to say, it is very dee-lish!

I've tried chilli-flavoured chocolate before but never in drink form. This is a particularly pleasant concoction that tingles on the tongue and in the throat nicely, and has just about the right degree of bitter-sweet (less bitter, not too sweet, and I get a bit sick with overly-sweet).

The Science of Chocolate

Is there one, really? Well if there isn't, there should be! And The BBC online Science & Nature magazine certainly make their way to creating a Science of Chocolate with the articles, quizzes and information they have on this section.

Worth looking at for any chocolate lover, and includes an article on why chocolate makes you happy and even an animation of how chocolate works on the brain (it has clearly done its job on mine).
