CSIRO Total Wellbeing voted the best diet?!

Australian newspaper The Herald Sun reported that an online panel of Australian dieters voted the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet as the one they most prefer. The article says that this diet came top place over 19 others, with Weight watchers coming second and Dr Tickell's Great Australian Diet taking third place.

I have to say, I'm quite surprised at this news, though I imagine that being developed in Australia, the diet has had better promotion in Oz and more takers. I remember writing about the CSIRO diet a while back for handbag.com and it looked as tedious as extracting slimey hair globs from the plug hole.

When I wrote this feature I hadn't yet ditched the idea of dieting completely, but reviewed the book with no interest in participating in the lack-lustre regime it dictated. The diet did receive a lot of criticism as well, as The Herald Sun notes, because it was constructed around some very iffy science.

To me, it looked fairly nutritionally balanced, but incredibly yawnsome. In fact, it could work just by putting you off food altogether, the recipes seemed so boring.

It was very popular over here (In oz) and we bought the book also but were very put off by how expensive it was.

I just sold the book on ebay!

I hear they are bringing out a children's CSIRO diet now - what next!

Aren't all diets tedious - I've yet to see one that isn't, even when they say you can include something exciting like chocalate or wine you are always deprived of something else! It probably went to the top because it's one of the current fad diets out there. Would not give up intuitive eating now for any diet, no matter how high it scores on anyones list!

Leesha - how funny that you've just sold the book! I think they are bringing out a new edition which attempts to tackle the science issues in the last, but didn't hear about the children's! Oh dear.

Jomay - I think this one is especially tedious, but I agree, all are!
